In The Glow: Askew
Askew, industrial felt and mixed media, 40 x 30 x 4 inches, 2024
This piece plays with the idea of the allure of the forbidden parts of the body— the way American consumer culture fetishizes, highlights, and shames female bodies all at the same time. Such a cultural lens often leads to hypersexualizing and layering loaded meanings onto even simplified forms and effects.
In this one-of-a-kind wall-hanging sculpture, soft curves and clean edges give a dimensional but graphically clean and precise form to showcase the everyday magic of reflected light and color. The pink ‘glow’ that appears along the curved dips of this piece may seem to be lit using electricity, but in truth the color comes only from ambient light bouncing off intensely pigmented panels.
This piece is featured the exhibition ‘In The Glow’ at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, California from September - December 2024. This work is available to purchase, but must remain on view at the Triton Museum through the close of the exhibition. Shipping, pickup, or delivery can be arranged with the artist.
