In The Glow: Tensilary
In The Glow: Tensilary, wool and pigment, 20 x 22.5 x 9 inches, 2024
This piece is loosely based on the infinity symbol, that unending broken loop. Yet the tension created at the twist in the middle-- highlighted by pink pigment-- comes from the concept of constantly trying to keep everything in motion and on balance and even elegant-- but at a price. The juxtaposition of aiming for beauty amid strain feels familiar.
I created this sculpture by compressing, tangling, and shaping loose fibers into felt using hand-held felting needles.
This piece was featured in my solo exhibit ‘In The Glow’ at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, California from September - December 2024.
