In The Glow: Bowery

$4,000.00

Bowery, wool and pigment, 15 x 10 x 10 inches,  2024

The concept driving this form was a sense of protection, like a bird shielding its brood with its curved-over wings. I wanted to apply pigment to the underside of translucent panels so that it would be barely visible externally, yet glow with warmth within. My initial sketches were fairly simple, but the internal anatomy really came about as I began constructing the sculpture and following the curves suggested by each part. It ended up womb-like, with connective tissue and folds. A 'bower' is a protected shady structure.

I created this sculpture by compressing, tangling, and shaping loose fibers into felt using hand-held felting needles.

This piece was featured in my solo exhibit ‘In The Glow’ at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, California from September - December 2024.
