Pink Panels

These wall-based sculptures explore the way color and form can be both subtle and intense. They are relatively simple, made of hand-stitched wool felt mounted on wooden stretcher bars, with fluorescent pink paint applied to undersides and edges in order for it to reflect off the white wool.

Their apparent simplicity comes about through careful attention to the way cutting, joining, and angling thick sheets of felt causes it to act almost like slabs of clay.

I think of these pink panel wall sculptures as quietly, delicately powerful; symbols of elegance with aspects that that reveal themselves through attention and light.

Nine small (8x8x3) studies examine different effects of bounced light off angled meetings of surfaces, and the effects vary depending on lighting. Two larger pieces trap the obscenely bright pink behind their surfaces, with sinuous shapes allowing a hint of the color inside.
